I have a passion for perfumes, but I'm also a huge movie buff. There is a movie from my childhood called "The Blue Lagoon". It tells the story of two young children stranded on a tropical island paradise in the S.Pacific. Beautiful crystal clear water, blue skies, exotic flowers and gorgeous beaches. Imagine stepping out of the salty water and a light cold breeze coupled with the rays of sunlight very gently touching your tanned skin. That's the scenario that comes to mind when I smell Oceania.
The opening is an explosion of citrus bouquet of bergamot, lemon, lime, mandarin, grapefruit and Litsea Cubeba. In general, this is a fragrance build around the freshness of citrus and the ocean, with the goal of evoking the feeling of being by the sea. You might think it's boring because you remember some (nice though!) marine, citrusy, fresh scents...This one is a bird of another feather, it's very elegant, sophisticated and complex. The perfect blend of raw, natural, high quality materials with the aroma chemicals. It smells gorgeous and expensive.
The citrus accords are spiced up with lavender, thyme and rosemary which adds some sweetness and herbal feel and an aromatic kick. The floral notes in the heart (geranium, jasmine, ylang-ylang) are meant to enhance and surround the scent, but don't really out beat the citrus. This is what makes the fragrance so versatile and wearable for formal and casual occasions. After 3 hours, Oceania becomes more sensual and woody, closer to the skin, with soft and charming sandalwood, cedarwood, enchanting oakmoss and vetiver. It's not a sillage beast, but it's very long lasting, especially for a citrusy scent. The woody-marine scent is probably created by orris and orris sur cedre (rare and expensive) mixed with cedarwood and violet, which also add a powdery touch.
I'm looking forward to wearing Oceania in the summer, as it seems like a perfect choice for the season. It is also important to note that Roja makes a donation from each sale of Oceania to charities that work to protect the seas and oceans.
