At the beginning of the year, I said that MATIÈRE PREMIÈRE is my personal best perfume discovery of 2020. I am truly in love with the whole collection and it was a love at first sniff. I compared it to the Chicago Bulls '93 of my olfactive year 2020, because it was simply the best. My undisputed favorite is ENCENS SUAVE - Michael Jordan of the collection. I am totally blown away every time I smell this masterpiece. If you are honest in perfumery, there is nothing to hide, especially when you are working with the best, carefully and responsibly sourced raw materials. When you are a master, you can also show off the texture and its most beautiful facets. At MATIÈRE PREMIÈRE, this message is simple.
I was never into incense fragrances, even though A.Guichard has some great incense fragrances like Casbah for R.Piguet in his portfolio. Encens Suave is a different story, the perfumer tell us something new about this ingredient. For me it is the best incense fragrance currently on the market. The RESIN INCENSE from Somalia is the heart of this scent. It is vibrant, resinous and incredibly addictive. Followed by a subtle addition of Labdanum Absolute from Andalusia and Benzoin Absolute from Laos, which gives a beautiful smoky (the smokiness that is not too overhelming) and woody aroma. To complete this minimalistic composition, the perfumer also used accords based on coffee bean extract from Venezuela and soft vanila absolute from Madagascar to enhance the sensuality and roundness.
