Marie Jeanne is known for its minimalist form, both in terms of its perfume compositions and overall brand identity (bottle, packaging, concept). Iris Pallida is the fragrance with which Georges Maubert (owner of the brand) wanted to pay tribute to this type of iris. The perfumer he trusted, Alexis Dadier (of Robertet SA), was entrusted with this task, and the search for the right formula took more than a year and a half. I was very impressed by the final result.
Iris Pallida joins the collection dedicated to natural raw materials (I have already described Vetiver Santal). It shows the beauty and multi-layered character of this flower (creamy, powdery, earthy, floral, luminous), originally from Dalmatia (Croatia) and now grown in many places around the world, including Southern Europe. Although its pale purple flowers attract attention, the essence of the fragrance lies in the rhizomes (orris root), for from them are extracted Butter and Iris Absolute, which delight with their texture, depth and elegance. The iris is the star here, but there are other notes that are meant to highlight the unique qualities of the iris: Hazelnut accord, sandalwood, cashmeran, musk, ambroxan, Turkish rose.
I have never been a big fan of iris in perfumes, perhaps because there are few fragrances that showcase it in a way that I personally like. In the case of Iris Pallid, I am enchanted, and if it were the first fragrance with this note in the lead role, I might be a big fan of it. Who does not need endless melancholy sometimes?
