Fragrance description

The new fragrance launched in mid-december of 2020 by the intriguing niche French perfume brand Essential Parfums, famous of their focus on substainable raw materials, environmentally friendly packaging and finally total freedom of expression for their perfumers they put on spotlight.

Early in the morning, you wake up minutes before sunrise somewhere in the Asian rainforest. You hear lyrical birdsong, munching peccaries, howler monkeys and the soothing sound of the river in the distance. The temperature is not that high but the humidity is tremendous. This is what I imagined when I took my first spray of BOIS IMPÉRIAL. A spicy, fresh, green and woody opening with an exotic hint of the Thai basilic accord (anise-like facets and hint of licorice plus some exotic fruit) followed by black pepper, Timur pepper (smells like effervescent pink grapefruit) and vetiver from Haiti. When the humidity drops slightly, you discover the full range of beautiful dry and spicy woodiness thanks to Akigalawood (exclusive material upcycled from patchouli) which is so addictive and indeed the core of this fragrance. The subtle addition of earthy vetiver (blended with Petalia - Givaudan's floral accord) and patchouli from Indonesia underlines the woodiness which becomes more creamy and round over time and this is my favourite, very pleasant phase of this interesting journey.

Mr Bisch enjoys using Akigalawood and knows how to handle it perfectly, as he has allready shown with Ganymede (I will also review it), which is a special fragrance for me. Akigala is a prominent note in both, but showcased in a different way. I would say the resemblance I find here is like an olfactive signature of the perfumer and I appreciate that.

B.I. is now my favourite from the house in a line with Divine Vanille and Nice Bergamote. Described as unisex but very masculine in my opinion. The scent has great longevity and impressive but not overpowering sillage. Definitely must try, BOIS IMPÉRIAL is a well blended, textured, modern, spicy-woody fragrance with an exotic undertone at an affordable price.
