D'Orsay is a well-known and respected French perfume brand with a long tradition. I've been following them for a long time, but when it appeared at Galilu, I couldn't pass by and not try it myself. The French name of this perfume seems complicated, but it becomes simpler when we understand it. Translated into English, it means "I look like what I am". This is a perfume that we wear for ourselves, not for someone else. It is a perfume that does not scream "here I am" from a distance. It evokes a sense of intimacy and privacy. It is also like a manifesto: I am who I am, not who others would like to see in me.
It opens with citrus notes in the form of tangerine and grapefruit, but this is not a refreshing shot. The fruits are very restrained here and only subtly complement the powdery, cardamom spiced iris heart with elements of lilac on a musky cedar base. The composition also includes sandalwood and narcissus, but I personally don't detect them. The delicate hint of fig leaves underlines the powdery nature of the fragrance, which exudes a soothing calm, with a touch of restraint.
Come closer, come quietly, into my world.
