Information
The Centifolia Rose, also called Rose de Mai because it blooms in May (ending in July). It is a flower of the rose family (Rosaceae), an extremely rare and delicate rose variety compared to the Damask rose, which is predominant in perfume compositions. Although smaller than the Damask rose, its fragrance is more intense, which has inspired many perfumers around the world. It is mainly grown in Grasse, France.
The cultivation of this species is not easy and requires expertise. Manual harvesting begins in the early morning when flowering begins and requires precision due to the delicacy of the flowers. After harvesting, the flowers must be quickly treated with steam distillation to extract the essential oil. About 1,000 kilograms of flowers are needed to produce 1.3 kilograms of Centifolia Rose Absolute.
