Information
It is impossible to imagine the world of perfumery without patchouli. Patchouli is a flowering plant species from the Lamiaceae family, also known as the mint or deadnettle family. The plant grows as a bushy perennial herb with erect stems that grow up to 75 centimetres tall and bear small, pale pinkish-white flowers.
In perfumery, patchouli is a very versatile natural raw material that has been widely used for decades. Patchouli essential oil is obtained by steam distillation, which takes about 8 hours
What does patchouli smell like?
Depending on the botanical variety, the scent can vary. Patchouli smells woody, earthy, green, dark, aromatic, minty, spicy, slightly sweet. Sometimes it also smells like damp earth. In general, it is always present in woody fragrances and can be wonderfully combined with vetiver, cedar or sandalwood.
