Information
A juniper berry is the female seed cone produced by the various juniper species. Juniper berries or extracts of the plant are traditionally used as a diuretic, remedy for arthritis, diabetes, antiseptic, and treatment of gastrointestinal and autoimmune diseases. Juniper berries are used, for example, to flavor sauerkraut and to make gin. In perfumery, the berries are steam distilled to produce an essential oil. This essence gives off a spicy, woody and resinous scent. It is a rather subtle and peppery fragrance, whose aromatic scent adds zest and depth to a composition.
