Information
The cedar is a long-lived tree of the pine family. The trees can reach a height of up to 50 meters. The main species used in perfumes are Juniperus Virginiana (cedar Virginia / Texas), Cedrus Atlantica (cedar Atlas), Cryptomeria (Japanese cedar) and Cedrus libani (from Lebanon).
In perfumes, cedar wood is mainly used as a base note due to its weight and good durability. It is one of the most important notes in the creation of a woody, masculine fragrance, especially in combination with patchouli, vetiver or sandalwood. It also combines well with citrus notes, especially grapefruit. Cedarwood essence is obtained by steam distillation of sawdust, which is then ground into a powder.
What does cedarwood smell like?
The scent of cedarwood is warm, dry, woody with hints of spice, slightly camphoraceous with balsamic accents.
