The blood orange, also known as the sicillian orange, is a variety of orange with a characteristic dark red flesh. It is grown in Italy and its color is due to the presence of anthocyanins, a family of polyphenol pigments. The most famous and popular varieties are Moro, Tarocco and Gallo.
